The primary duties of the dental hygienist include cleaning and polishing teeth, instructing patients in good oral hygiene habits and after care for dental treatments rendered, and providing other preventative dental care.
Essential Functions: •Assist the Dentist during general dental procedures and examinations. •Prepare the operatory for procedure and the patient for dental treatment. •Prescreen patient needs and educate patients on general oral healthcare. •Obtain and manage accurate patient records by charting and documenting dental care services and medical histories. •Educate patients on treatment plan actions and promote the best strategy. •Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; respond promptly to patient needs. •Detect disease by completing oral cancer screening, feeling and visually examining gums, sores and signs of gum disease, using probes to locate and assess levels of recession and taking x-rays. •Clean calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of gums using dental instruments. •Apply sealants, fluorides, and other cavity preventing agents to arrest dental decay. •Review oral hygiene and plaque control instructions and assist in answering routine patient questions. •Provides health education, nutritional counseling, and self-care programs to prevent disease. •Break down of operatory and sterilization. •Solicits patient feedback to improve service. •Other tasks as assigned.
Licensure and/or Certification Requirements: •Current Dental Hygiene License from the Ohio State Dental Board •Local Anesthesia Certification or completed course •Active CPR Certification
Minimum Requirements: •Associates or Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene •Six months of experience in a dental environment as a Certified Dental Hygienist preferred •Ability to work in a fast paced environment •Strong oral and written communication skills •Basic computer literacy including the ability to chart and take radiographs via digital software •Full Time employees must be willing to work three to four 12-hour shifts from 9:00AM to 9:00PM (at minimum with time for practice opening and closing), with flexible availability including shifts on the weekends
