The State University of New York (SUNY) at Canton invites qualified applicants for a full-time tenure-track position as Associate Professor (other ranks considered) who would also serve as Director of an Associate degree Dental Hygiene program. Canton’s Dental Hygiene program is located at a distant site in Rome, NY. Faculty responsibilities are teaching, assessment, student advisement, university service, scholarship, and professional growth. The program Director provides the academic administration of an accredited dental hygiene program at a distant site, including: teaching 6-9 credit hours each semester (reduced load); supervision of program faculty and staff; budget creation and management; participation in the admissions process; coordination of open houses and student orientations; procurement of dentists to supervise various procedures; program assessment.
Required Qualifications include DDS, or Masters or Doctoral-prepared Dental Hygienist licensed in New York State or eligible for licensure in New York, and current CPR certification. Experience in an academic dental education setting. Must be a member of an appropriate professional association, and be capable of traveling to the main campus in Canton, NY. Preferred Qualifications include documented leadership experience; budget management skills; grant writing skills; experience teaching in the clinical setting; knowledge of computer applications in education and dental practice; formal preparation in educational theory, practice, and curriculum development; expertise in program assessment and assessment of student learning; experience with program accreditation; doctorate or ABD status in a doctoral program, or willingness to earn a doctorate prior to tenure.
