My name is Dr. Bruce Cochrane. I am a periodontist who has been practicing in Northwest Iowa for the last forty years. I am currently looking for either an associate who would eventually take over the practice or someone who is interested in buying the practice. My practice consists mainly of implant dentistry. I place close to four hundred implants a year and gross over a 1.8 million. I have seven hygienists who work with me and I satellite to two offices. There is a huge potential for a young energetic periodontist to grow the practice even more.

Last year my practiced grossed 1.8 million. A couple of years ago I went down to four days a week patient days. I don’t see any drop off occurring now that I have cut one patient day out of the practice. I suppose I am just working harder on the other four days. My overhead over the last three or four years has been in the fifty six to fifty nine percent range. I have eighteen employees. The majority of which are part time but I do have seven core people who help me in my main office and my satellites.

My dental practice continues to grow. As it has grown I have put a significant amount of my periodontal surgeries on the back burner. I rely to a moderate degree on the PerioProtect system. If you go to Pubmed and go to this past Decembers Journal of Clinical Dentistry you will find a research article I recently published. I have been told by the brokers who evaluated my practice that if someone wanted to increase the periodontal aspect of this practice they probably would need an associate. I am the only periodontist in my region of the state so I cover an area that is approximately 100 miles in any direction. My referral base is approximately 320,000. I have about seventy dentist who refer to me on a regular basis. I live in a town of about 28,000 and I satellite into two different communities of about 15,000. There is another major opportunity in this area. There is a town about fifty miles south that does not have a periodontist. It represents a tremendous cushion and growth opportunity.

In regards to my time frame in regards to retirement. I know how to start a practice, I know how to build a practice, I do not know how to retire. I will be happy to work as long as the buyer would like me to. I will work for twenty percent of what I generate. That is a number that is low enough that it allows the buyer of the practice to profit from my efforts and not interfere with the transition. I am also perfectly happy to stick around and just be an ambassador. I deal with about 125 to 150 dentists. There has to be some sort of learning curve for the buyer to become acclimated to this practice. I am also willing to work with an interested buyer on financing the practice.
