This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from a United States or Canadian school of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed or from a school (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence. Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The dentist must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Certification in the field of Periodontics. Zablocki VA Medical Center (VAMC) is a tertiary care level 1a facility providing advanced medical care to a diverse population of Veterans. Zablocki is affiliated with the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), and as such integrates teaching, research, and advanced patient care into its tri-fold organizational mission. The facility is home to a large multidisciplinary dental practice, inclusive of general dentists and dental specialists. The Dental Service also sponsors an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) program, as well as a graduate specialty program in Prosthodontics. We are seeking a full-time, 1.0 FTEE Board Eligible or preferably Board Certified Periodontist at the Clement J. Zablocki VAMC Milwaukee, WI. He/she will report directly to the Chief of Dentistry in the Primary Care Division. The candidate will possess a passion for Veterans' care, provide a high level of customer service, have the ability to engage employees to work as a team and have the ability to foster a good relationship with the affiliate. Duties: Administers local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide analgesia. Performs routine and moderately complicated tooth extractions, including surgical procedures. Studies results of examination to determine type of service required and develops an acceptable treatment plan. Recognizes symptoms of an assortment of systemic diseased and referring cases for medical diagnosis. The incumbent must provide timely, accurate and complete record documentation utilizing the computerized medical record system. Provides appropriate consults and referrals to medical and dental specialists. Maintains current certification in BLS and if required ACLS to provide emergency medical management. Must possess computer skills, have good work ethics and be a team player. The incumbent will provide education and training to members of the medical and dental staff through various conferences, committees and lecture series. The incumbent may be assigned administrative or managerial responsibilities through participation in clinical, educational and administrative committees, task groups or special projects. Responsible for attending department, facility and education meetings that occur before and after clinic hours. This position will require excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals. The incumbent will comply with processes and procedures including infection control, OSHA guidelines, x-rays and oral health education, knowledge and application of HIPPA/Security regulations, and in compliance with VHA policy. This position will require excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of urgent and chronic dental problems in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals.
